Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from engineers and senior designers to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field, design analysis, etc.
  • Use AutoCad software to create Electrical and Instrumentation (E/I) drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software and related Autodesk products.
  • Perform checking of E/I drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design sketches, etc.
  • Assist Engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design.
  • Write requisitions, quotations, specifications, technical writings, etc.
  • Perform basic equipment and system calculations.
  • Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of electrical equipment, instrumentation and electrical part of mechanical packages.
  • Travel on business trips as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.
  • Travel on field assignments as required to assist with construction, commissioning and startup of the plant.
  • Work as a "team player" with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.

Skills/Abilities:

Required:

  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise field erection activities including supplying technical and installation assistance for equipment used in Direct Reduction and/or steel industry.
  • Ability to travel to various Midrex job sites in numerous countries

Preferred:

  • International travel experience.
  • Industrial plant experience.
  • Microsoft Excel skills including developing lists for engineering.
  • Familiar with design of E&I systems in hazardous area with adherence to NEC/NFPA and local codes.
  • Familiar with design of bulks items such as cable tray, conduit, cable specification, lighting and grounding

Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree in electrical or instrumentation discipline; or a minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to steel industry

Travel REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10% - 25% yearly average International and Domestic based project demands. During startup/commissioning of a project (typically year 3 of project) travel can exceed 50%.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
