Summary
The Senior Director of Engineering Services is responsible for maintaining key client relationships, developing new clients, and overseeing projects within the Smart Energy (SE) markets (e.g., Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Charging, etc.).
About this opportunity
Provides leadership for team members at multiple sites performing highly specialized roles. This includes long-term planning, objective setting, and policy formation.
Accountable for SE projects or programs on a global basis (P&L responsibility).
Analyzes difficult problems or situations and then develops new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs, or techniques to establish new strategic direction.
Makes final decisions to ensure achievement of objectives.
Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions often involve customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.
Represents the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.
Description
Defines the vision and develops the annual business plan.
Develops short-term and long-term goals and identifies target customers.
Identifies organization’s strengths as well as those of the competitors.
Directs the engineering design services from customer requirements through product obsolescence.
Communicates regularly with customers to provide information, escalate issues, and create a positive working relationship.
Delivers presentations and communicates capabilities to potential customers.
Works with potential customers to help define their needs and to present technical proposals to meet those needs.
Ensures proposals meet requirements for design and manufacturing profitability.
Interfaces with other design centers to develop complementary services and coordinate capabilities worldwide.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Smart Energy business, and the things that impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery and the profitability of the unit.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of engineering design and development, testing, quality and production in a highly dynamic manufacturing environment.
Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials, and processes.
Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
Ability to establish business unit goals and coordinate a wide variety of resources to meet quality and quantity metrics.
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
Ability to effectively lead, manage, train and motivate a diverse group of employees to meet high levels of technical requirements within tight time deadlines
Experience and Education
Fifteen plus years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced studies in Business/Operations/Technology are recommended.
