The Operations Manager leads Production from a ZERO EHS impact philosophy. The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment and processes to produce products.  Responsible to ensure all work is compliant with site and regulatory EHS requirements; that personnel and process safety risks are understood and controlled; performance of in-process quality control procedures to produce quality products free of defects; management of efficient raw material receipt and utilization as well as shipment of finished products; management of labor, material, supplies and other costs. Responsible for the efficient transportation and storage of goods and is effective at reducing costs while delivering superior value to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.   As equipment owner of the bulk of site equipment, the Operations Manager is responsible for the proper operation, up-keep, reliability, cleanliness, and repair costs of equipment.  Responsible to provide standard operating procedures for production work processes and to ensure compliance to procedures through training and skill development of production employees.  Responsible to drive continuous improvement of all aspects of performance by setting targets, making performance visible, engaging employees in improvement efforts, and driving root cause problem solving. Responsible for identifying and engaging team members in developmental activities designed to stimulate long-term individual and organizational growth.

How You Will Make an Impact:

Key Responsibilities

Site Management 

·     Serves as member of Site Leadership Team

·     Collaborates with other functional leaders to identify, prioritize, and solve problems to support achievement of site goals and objectives

·     Anticipates future requirements for site and develops and implements strategic plans to meet those requirements

Operations Manager Role

·     Ensures EHS compliance and continuous improvement in EHS performance 

·     Ensures achievement of planned production volume on-time, on-spec and at cost

·     Leads department performance and improvement through alignment and effective use of the planning and performance management cycle (PPMC). Sets clear goals, rigorously monitors KPI progress towards goals, and takes action to ensure accomplishment of goals

·     Responsible for maintaining site’s production execution and operating processes (The Operating Envelope) linking compliance, EHS, reliability, production, yield, quality, cost, and capital projects to mitigate production risks and maximize production value

·     Establishes operational discipline by following all Operations Manager daily standard work processes, monitors, measures, and audits department leaders to ensure accountability for following daily standard work processes

Production Department Leader Role

·     Drives execution of the production schedule to optimize production line usage, preventive maintenance activities, and workforce effectiveness

·     Monitor crew scheduling processes to optimize workforce performance and plant production

·     Establishes operational best practices to efficiently manage cost controls e.g. unplanned production downtime/delays and employee overtime 

·     Is accountable for the problem-solving and RCA processes to resolve reliability problems, and reduce risks

Distribution and Logistics Department Leader Role

·     Accountable for execution of raw material receiving and finished goods shipment work processes

·     Responsible for execution of the Order Fulfillment work process within both the ERP/SAP system and the standard paper work processes such as BOL’s, COA’s, etc.

·     Ensures storage, packaging and transportation of raw materials and finished goods are complaint with requirements of regulating agencies DOT/IATA/IMO/FRA and meet customer requirements

·     Maintains a current and up to date knowledge management inventory system to understand market dynamics to include lead-times, cost and delivery expectations, past and future promotional events, and new product introductions to aid in superior customer service and D&L performance

Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement

·     Drives LEAN/Six Sigma, continuous improvement of processes and operations for increased productivity and efficiency (Operational Excellence) 

·     Grow a culture of continuous improvement (CI) by consistently embedding CI into meetings, trainings, processes, and systems

·     Ensures Production and D&L work is accomplished through defined, measured, and continuously improved work processes; identifies and leverages Production best practices

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering or Chemistry, or demonstrated equivalency
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience, preferably in Process industry manufacturing
  • Minimum (10) years manufacturing experience and 5 years supervisory experience, preferably leading another functional department in a manufacturing environment
