Product Development Manager

FPC Bangor is working with a packaging paper manufacturer looking for a Product Development Manager to support improvements in existing product lines as well as the design and development of new products. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       design and implement new product development projects (including the evaluation of new market potential), laboratory investigation, planning, coordinating trials, and evaluating the product.

·       develop new and innovative products and upgrade and modify existing products in support of the continued grown of the firm ensuring the quality of the product aligns with the standards of the company.

·       carries out research and development activities, exploring the commercial viability of a new product or process and working out the cost and resource implications of moving from a limited production batch to full-scale manufacturing. 

·       prepare an experimental plan and then carries out screening in the laboratory (on-site and / or on pilot equipment off site). 

·       work with the operations to set up machine trials and leads the progression towards making the plan for a commercial grade.  Also reports on project status and trial results as required.

·       implement process improvement projects including the qualification of new raw materials and coating chemicals to improve cost and manufacturing efficiency.

·       support sales, marketing, and technical services in introducing new products and maintaining existing products and works directly with customers to address problems as required.

·       work closely with the sales on costing out new and existing grades, reviewing present and actual standards for paper machine runs, ensuring furnish and / or coating recipes are accurate in the mill’s cost system, and activating and deactivating grades, as necessary.  Some initiatives will include PFAS free grade development and others.

 

Education & Qualifications

·       Four-year chemical engineering degree and / or equivalent experience

·       Detailed understanding of diagnostics product testing, failure analysis, and debugging techniques

·       Solid understanding of paper making and process

·       Self-starter with strong leadership, communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability

·       Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
