Job Description: EHS Manager – Chemical Manufacturing Facility - just outside of Lexington (North East)
Overview:
Join our dynamic team at a chemical manufacturing facility with 260 employees, operating 24/7 across multiple shifts. This is an on-site role where you will leverage your expertise in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) to lead initiatives, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and certifications.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years in EHS or other related fields.
- A background in operations or process roles that transitioned into safety will also be strongly considered.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Certifications: CSP certification is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of operational and technical issues related to EHS.
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene analysis, medical monitoring programs, and ergonomics.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication.
- Proficiency in hazard recognition (e.g., hot work), regulatory compliance, and process safety management (PSM).
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Six Sigma experience or knowledge to align with company-wide process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement EHS policies in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Stay updated on trends, regulations, and best practices.
- Conduct audits, assessments, and investigations for compliance and corrective action, with a focus on wet and dry chemical manual mixing and process optimization.
- Oversee programs for hazard recognition, including hot work, ergonomic assessments, and non-confined space hazards.
- Lead efforts to update and improve the wastewater facility and address permit-related needs in collaboration with consultants.
- Serve as the technical expert for building design and workplace processes, ensuring EHS compliance and improving operational safety.
- Manage emergency response plans and provide technical support during incidents.
- Mentor and lead a team, including two direct reports, fostering a culture of safety and ownership within the facility.
- Identify problems and provide actionable solutions, demonstrating a proactive approach rather than a complaint-driven mindset.
- Collaborate with the Regional EHS team while maintaining ownership of the plant’s EHS programs and performance.
- Communicate findings and improvements internally and externally, including compliance updates to regulators.
- Support the company’s Six Sigma initiatives by contributing to site-specific roadmaps and process improvements.
