Materials Cost Analyst/Cost Engineer

My client is a Fortune 500 leader in the automotive industry. The Product Cost Management team is looking for a Material Cost Analyst (Cost Engineer) that understands and desires to challenge costs on existing and new components

You will support both Procurement and Engineering with high quality material cost calculations to identify potential cost savings for both new product designs and supplier negotiations. Cost calculations will be both from a 'Greenfield' as well as a supplier specific perspective. The Material Cost Analyst will be expected to be a business partner to procurement, business Units, and R&D and have an active role in negotiations and supplier selection.

We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic individual with a BS degree (Engineering preferred) and relevant work experience of a minimum of 2 years, preferably with a background in the automotive industry as an engineer, cost engineer or procurement. This position will work both internally and cross-functionally at multiple levels. Excellent teamwork and clear communication is important. This position will require some travel to key suppliers to support procurement negotiations.

• Challenge suppliers on their cost structures and negotiate based on factual data
• Generate ‘Greenfield’ cost estimates - the true cost of the component, as designed, assuming best-in-class sourcing and manufacturing.
• Travel to key supplier manufacturing sites to assess the supplier’s true manufacturing costs and develop ‘Brownfield’ cost models, and also identify potential opportunities to optimize cost.
• Closely partner with Category Managers and provide costing/ analytics support for all major supplier negotiation
