Job Summary:

The Director of Mechanical Engineering drives the success of the Mechanical Engineering efforts. The Director will develop, plan, coordinate, and participate in driving engineering activities supporting new product development, production launch, and product innovation. This role sets a high bar as the example and tone for productivity standards and goal attainment. The Director of Mechanical Engineering will be a “roll up the sleeves” professional who knows how to get things done.  Success is measured by efficiently implementing and delivering cost-effective products while demonstrating the ability to drive timely and successful implementations. Successful implementations are achieved through ideation, creation, validation, and the appropriate application of contingency plans and corrective actions.   

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Direct the strategic design and implementation of the team’s products and technologies.
  • Supervise all direct reports for setting priorities, overseeing the engineering workflow and staffing needs by working alongside team members.
  • Lead meetings, huddles, and other work planning activities with a “can do” perspective encouraging participation in removing barriers or roadblocks.
  • Responsible for ensuring designs are manufacturable and reliable at the lowest cost by working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive proper architectural decisions which support efficient, reliable, serviceable, and high performing thermal management systems.
  • Design new products and components including plastic injection molded parts, die castings, sheet metal, weldments stampings, machined components, HVAC piping etc. 
  • Establish engineering standards and communicate engineering information to the organization.
  • Provide cost analysis for development projects; prepare and maintain schedule of all project deliverable dates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and meet organizational goals.
  • Apply technical expertise and provide guidance on all product development projects, engineering operations, and supporting systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the battery industry.
  • Establish long-term engineering needs and plans and develop strategies for developing systems and acquiring engineering software and hardware necessary to meet those needs.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations that apply to delivered products and engineering operations.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive leadership experience in an engineering position.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in successfully managing new product development projects.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic start-up environment where initiative and ownership is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making & outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and customers.
  • Experience designing test plans, test setups, and analyzing data.
  • Experience in a high-volume assembly and manufacturing industry or research and development industry.
  • Proficient in CAD modeling and understanding CAE models, including deciphering boundary conditions, assumptions, and model limitations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of product delivery processes and tools; ability to serve as a source of technical & functional solutions and perspectives to others.
  • Experience in establishing overall direction and strategic initiatives within a business group.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff members.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Adept in data processing and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
