Utilities Shift Supervisor
FPC Bangor is looking for a Utilities Shift Supervisor to provide assistance to the steam plant operations in a Maine facility. Areas of responsibility include Boilers, a newly upgraded Recovery Boiler, Steam Turbine Generation, Lime Kiln, and Water Treatment. This position will report to the Utilities Superintendent.
Responsibilities
· Strong knowledge of successful operation and troubleshooting of boilers, steam turbines generators, and black liquor evaporators.
· Able to supervise a crew of 10 or more unionized employees. (The company will provide training around contract language.)
· Keeping track of and validating hours worked by the employees under the candidate’s supervision, to provide accurate pay for employees.
· Facilitate training, using the new training program provided, to ensure employees are well qualified.
· Capability to understand and learn associated controls and software systems.
· Ensures the weekly schedule of work provided by Utilities Superintendent is completed. This means working with the Maintenance Department to ensure safe and efficient lockouts are completed and the area is cleaned for safe work.
· Willing to be involved in and provide input or suggestions for special projects that improve safety, quality, environment, and / or production goals.
· Responsible for reporting safety incidents, ensuring standard operating procedures are up-to-date, work requests are entered, lockout tagout procedures are correct, etc.
· Ensure and enforce safety policies, safe working practices, quality, and production goals.
· Will need to ensure information is exchanged between managers, superintendents, and employees.
Skills
· Ability to work effectively with all groups of people.
· Candidate needs to have strong communication skills, (i.e., interpersonal, written and verbal)
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a group to a quick decision or make a timely decision on their own.
· Able to multi-task efficiently under demanding circumstances
· Desired computer skills are Word & Excel, CMMS, Kronos or equivalent program (keeping track of pay and hours for hourly workers)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or Power Engineering field desired, however equivalent work experience in the operation of the Utilities Sector (includes boilers, evaporators, and steam turbine generation) can be suitable.
- A Maine state boiler operator’s license is preferred, however if the candidate does not have one, they must be willing to take and gain a boiler operator’s license within 1 year of hiring. (Company will pay you to gain this license.)
Working Conditions
- Shifts include 12 hours a day, 3 days on with 3 days off, then 3 nights on with 3 days off.
- With this type of schedule, you work half a year.
- Includes working in an office as well as supervising operations within the plant.
- Includes following detailed mill safety and environmental procedures.
- The company will provide training regarding union contracts, and various reporting software used to include meeting environmental and safety objectives.
- Will also provide training to make sure the candidate is trained in Reliability Excellence initiatives such as work requests regarding the CMMS system.
- There is also room for advancement in multiple areas, including changing of work area, if so desired.
