Job Summary:

The Battery Management System (BMS) Hardware Design Engineer position is crucial in the design and development of advanced battery management systems used in high-voltage battery applications. This role involves creating hardware architecture and components to monitor, control, and optimize battery performance across various applications, contributing to enhancing battery safety, lifespan, and efficiency. The BMS Hardware Design Engineer collaborates closely with the BMS team to develop a versatile hardware platform applicable in different sectors. Knowledge of high voltage safety, automotive safety, and UL safety standards pertaining to battery systems is essential for this role.


  • Define system and performance requirements in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design and develop hardware components of the BMS, including PCBs, microcontrollers, analog and digital circuits, and sensors.
  • Create detailed schematics, evaluate component selection, and ensure reliability and functionality of BMS hardware.
  • Build and test hardware prototypes to meet performance and safety specifications; make design enhancements as necessary.
  • Develop and integrate monitoring circuits and sensors for measuring essential battery parameters.
  • Design communication interfaces for data exchange within the energy storage system.
  • Ensure hardware design adheres to relevant safety standards and conduct safety analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate BMS into the energy storage system.
  • Create comprehensive design documentation including specifications, test plans, DFMEA, and test reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues, making improvements to enhance BMS performance.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance BMS hardware design continually.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automotive or similar hardware development/leadership.
  • Proven experience in hardware design, especially in battery management systems or similar embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence) and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, and sensor integration.
  • Experience with battery technologies, safety, and industry standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, able to work both independently and in a team.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C/C++) is a plus.
