Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Battery Engineer will be responsible for linking system-level battery pack requirements with vehicle targets and driving thermal, Battery Management System (BMS), electrical, mechanical and power distribution unit subsystem requirements accordingly
  • This will require the Battery Engineer to coordinate efforts of mechanical design, thermal design, electrical design, harness design, BMS and software team members
  • As a member of the energy storage systems group, the Battery Pack Systems Engineer will be responsible full integration into vehicle and with all interfacing systems, power modes, charging and seamless integration of supplier partner development and validation with the development processes
  • Translate vehicle requirements into battery pack system electrical and mechanical requirements, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, environmental, reliability and cost requirements
  • Manage battery pack Bill of Materials and ensure requirements flow down to component design/procurement activities
  • Conduct internal battery system design reviews, including CAE analysis and interfacing vehicle systems
  • Develop Functional Safety and Cybersecurity system requirements for necessary electrical system and software development for vehicle integration
  • Coordinate Packaging for battery pack systems in the CATIA V5 as well as NX environment, across vehicle systems
  • Lead and/or participate in technical design reviews with customers
  • Track Open Issues, communicate issues to all groups and setup meetings as required to close all issues
  • Escalate major issues immediately to leadership
  • Plan and execute assembly and component timing alignment with overall program timing and mitigate strategies as appropriate to resolve conflicts
  • Create and maintain battery electrical, battery management system, power distribution unit, thermal and mechanical system-level DFMEAs and DVP&Rs
  • Retrofit, test, rework, and debug on prototype & pre-production vehicles


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in EE with relevant experience  
  • Minimum of 5 years with high voltage battery pack & electric powertrains design, product development and validation
  • Experience translating vehicle performance into battery system and subsystem technical specifications and requirements
  • Experience leading direct and cross functional teams effectively
  • Experience designing and releasing electrical and mechanical subsystems
  • Knowledge of CAN, LIN and Ethernet protocols as well as HVIL systems
  • Direct experience with lithium-ion battery pack design and testing
  • Thorough understand of battery management requirements and functionality, including power
