Company – A rapidly-growing green building materials company making high performance insulation from recycled materials. The company’s first production facility in Buffalo is scaling rapidly and on pace to be fully sold out within a year, so the company targets rolling out multiple new facilities on a path to a potential IPO.
Locations – Seeking Director of Operations for 3 sites: our current Buffalo, NY operation, and two new Midwest and a MidAtlantic locations (with planned further expansion in US, Canada, and Europe). Candidates should be located in Northeast, MidAtlantic or Midwest (or willing to relocate to those areas) and near a good airport.
Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP of Operations, each of three Director of Operations will have responsibility for a $35M production facility. We are currently seeking to fill these leadership roles for Buffalo, NY, a new Midwest plant and a planned MidAtlantic facility. You will be responsible for scaling up production to manufacture cellulose insulation from recycled corrugated cardboard boxes using our patented process, now fully proven at our first plant. You will cooperate with leadership at other facilities, driving improvements in key metrics across while meeting aggressive growth targets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the scale up and ongoing operations of company's production facility.
- Drive key metrics of safety, output, efficiency, quality, etc.
- Rapidly adapt production operations to process improvements and to incorporate new products & technologies being developed by company's R&D team.
- Play a key role in the company’s leadership team as a central figure in leading cross-functional teams to solve key production problems and to address any customer issues
- Serve as operational liaison for the Buffalo facility with sales, finance and other functional areas of the firm.
The right candidate will bring experience in these areas:
- Relevant Operational Leadership Experience from Process Industry Manufacturing: A track record of successful leadership in manufacturing is essential, including manufacturing in process plants handling bulk materials.
- Track Record of Innovation in High Growth Ventures: We are seeking a candidate that has led plants through rapid expansions (not just incremental improvements).
- Experience Across a Range of Scales and Vantage Points: We are looking for a candidate who is familiar with the high paced environment of a disruptive market entrant but can understand the mindset of large companies grinding out thinner margins.
- Educational Requirements: Engineering degree (or similar technical degree) and experience leading $10-100M+ operations is required.
