The Company seeks a Senior Substation Technician for its Oklahoma based Service enterprise.
The Position: Senior Substation Technician
- Located in the Tulsa, OK area, works remotely
- Reports to the Operations Manager in Oklahoma
- Performs all aspects of substation services (repair, processing & testing) and demonstrates an exceptional understanding of transformers, construction, operation and the associated controls
- Performs in shop and field transformer testing for Power Factor, excitation and resistance readings per NETA/ANSI Standards, maintains operational mechanical systems including pump operations, valve operations and oil processing units
- Receives excellent pay and benefits
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoots and tests transformers using various methods and testing equipment including partial installation of transformer components
- Verifies repairs using various start-up testing procedures
- Conducts acceptance testing and preventative maintenance in accordance with published procedures
- Operates specialized test equipment including but not limited to: Power Factor Testers (DOBLE), Megohmmeters, AC/DC volt-ohm-millimeters, various kinds of hand-held power and nonpower tools, etc.
- Makes electrical measurements, mechanical adjustments, assembles and disassembles parts and equipment correctly
- Reads and understands instruction manuals
- Maintains a professional attitude when representing the company during phone or personal contact with outside vendors, customers or service providers.
- Observes all safety procedures and use proper protective gear
- Completes required paperwork for each job accurately and timely
- Performs other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor
- Is willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out of town jobs
- Is willing and able to work regular overtime including nights, weekends and some holidays
- On occasion, may lead substation trainees and technicians on field service projects, and insures safety and customer work requirements are met by field crews
- Accurately records and reports work time
- Creates new test routines for processes used in customer service and field work
- Contributes to Quality Control documentation of test procedures
Competencies, Qualifications, Education and Experience :
- Acceptance and Diagnostic Testing, Substation Commissioning Testing, Relay Calibration
- Doble, Transformer Turns ratio, Megger, etc.
- Problem and Failure Investigation, Internal Inspection & Condition Assessment
- Paper Samples for Degree of Polymerization Testing
- Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen, and physical
- Must pass nationwide criminal background check
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 + lbs., climb ladders, stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work for extended periods which includes overtime, weekends and holidays on short notice
- High School Diploma or GED REQUIRED
- Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred
- 10+ years of commensurate Substation work experience preferred
- Electrical theory education and/or related experience is required
- Military experience is a plus
- Able to read and understand English language documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence
- Able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations
- Able to perform mathematical calculations as required in fundamental AC/DC electrical theory
- Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
- Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Must demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving
- Must have basic computer competence and the ability to work with common software such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- NETA certification is a plus
- CDL Class A is required
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to walk/traverse/stand on uneven ground
- Ability to lift, push or pull 50+lbs
- The typical work environment is in utility and industrial locations, indoor and outdoor settings; although usually moderate, temperatures can range between extreme hot and cold weather conditions
- Working near moving mechanical parts and around energized high-voltage equipment
