Operations Manager

FPC Bangor is working with a small paper mill that manufactures the most consistent products, for over a century, looking for an Operations Manager.


·       Responsible for operations of plant including 1 paper machine, stock preparation, waste treatment, Converting/Finishing/Shipping and Maintenance.

·       Approximately 50 unionized Hourly employees and about 8-10 salaried employees

·       Lead safety, quality and efficiency initiatives for plant. Develop processes throughout the mill to support these key needs.

·       Support leadership skills development for direct reports. Instill world-class behaviors and expectations in all leaders.

·       Provide direction on projects, budgets and mill improvement capital initiatives.

·       Support customer based manufacturing machine scheduling and product planning.

·       Will report to the President


Required skills and abilities:


·       7+ years’ experience in paper manufacturing leadership is required, including a history of increasingly responsible positions

·       Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science, Chemical Engineering or related field is strongly desired. Relevant experience may be an alternative to a degree.

·       Must have demonstrated leadership experience and skills. Success building and leading teams, engaging a Unionized workforce and empowering decision making in direct reports is required

·       Strong safety focus is an essential. History developing and implementing a world class safety program and turning around a subpar safety culture highly desired.

·       Experience in budgetary processes and/or capital projects a plus.

·       Excellent communication skills. Competency with Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint is key.
