FPC Workplace Web Poll Data Indicate that 90% of Employees Who Leave Positions Maintain Good Relationships with Their Previous Employers
NEW YORK, May 18, 2006—Recruiting professionals at FPC, a national executive search firm with more than 70 offices, ask job candidates visiting the site their opinions about workplace issues.
This latest data from the FPC Workplace Web Poll across all levels and industries, indicate that employees see the value in maintaining relationships with their previous employers.
Of 1077 respondents* across numerous industries and levels responding to the question “What do you think most accurately describes you?”
90% said “I always leave jobs maintaining good relationships.”
5% said “I try to maintain good relationships but I wouldn’t have left if I didn’t dislike them.”
3% said “I try to maintain good relationships but they don’t want anything to do with you once you give your resignation.”
2% said “I don’t worry about old relationship – I’ll forge new ones.”

These results hold constant when the data is broken down by employee level and across salary level.
“Our findings support the trend of companies maintaining alumni relationships, going so far as having websites dedicated to alumni relations and networking. While some companies still adhere to security procedures when an employee resigns, the growing trend is very much to maintain that relationship because of the future benefit it could provide. Similarly, employees realize the it’s best for their career to leave a company on good terms. ” said FPC President Ron Herzog.
